    1. Jon, I would change plans..I'm assuming you will be coming from the Madera county side (Minarets RD) to access you're intended area..As far as I know they have not closed that area yet...However the smoke will take a way the fun from your experience...I have been camping several times while in the smoke/wind path of fires, it's not that fun as it makes visibility limited and is not fun to breathe.. If you want to camp somewhere and are willing to change plans I would recommened staying farther north in the Beasore Meadows area or farther south into the Wishon/Courtright Lake areas...Good luck

    1. I just read that 4 hikers are missing in that area..They were able to make a phone call and said they lost direction from the thick smoke..The SAR got gps coordinates and they said they are somewhere between lake Italy and Bear Creek...SAR is sending ground crew because the smoke is to thick to see through for aircraft..

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
